Anxiety before a dental appointment is common for children and adults of all ages. We have some planning tips for you to try out before and during your child’s appointment. We care greatly about your child’s comfort and peace. Here are some ways you can prepare for the big visit.
Read Our Blogs to Them
We have several blogs that outline the dental appointment process for you and your child. From the first regular checkup to the application of braces, we have a detailed outline of your child’s dental experience. The “unknown” can be quite scary, so use our blogs to give them a picture of what to expect.
Make the Day Special
Create a “good” day for your child. You don’t need to buy presents, but you can make them their favorite breakfast, play their jams in the car and take them to the park if they are feeling well enough after their appointment. You can make a big difference in their day with some little actions to make it all about them!
Co-Brush Before the Appointment
When you co-brush, especially before their appointment, you are accompanying them in their dental experience. This will remind your child that you are with them before and throughout the appointment. You are able to sit chairside with your child once you arrive at the appointment. Co-brushing reinforces the idea that you are in this together!
Sedation is Available
Although prepping your child’s day may lower the anxiety they feel, they still may have trouble relaxing for their appointment. Even the calmest of children need additional help during their appointment. We have sedation available if the experience is too much for your little one. Our office staff is here to answer any questions you might have about this, so please send us questions through our website or give us a call!
Dental visits can be a touchy subject for many children and adults. We hope that we have given you some ideas about how to make the day better for your child. Your child’s dental health is our top priority and we are confident that our office will give your child the best experience possible!
